Carter’s is a well-established company with history dating back to 1865. Carter’s is the largest branded marketer of baby and children’s clothing in the U.S., marketing apparel under 2 of the most recognized and enduring brands in the nation, Carter’s and OshKosh B’gosh. Their heritage of quality, innovation, and value has earned them the trust of generations of families.
Carter’s and OshKosh B’gosh clothing and accessories are sold at over 600 company-owned retail stores, as well as thousands of national department stores and some of the country’s largest retailers, such as Babies 'R Us, Belk, Bon-ton, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy's, and Sears.
Carter's brands include: Carters, OshKosh B'gosh, Child of Mine, Just One You, and Genuine Kids.
Carter’s was established by William Carter, a British immigrant, who founded the William Carter Company in Needham, Massachusetts in 1865. At the time, Carter’s manufactured union suits, shirt bands, vests, drawers, and corsets. By 1922, the product line had expanded to include children’s undergarments and athletic wear.
Carter’s is opening stores and expanding into new markets.
Ninety percent of millennial parents — and 80 percent of baby boomer grandparents — have shopped at Carter’s in the past year, according to market research firm Kantar. The company has exclusive lines at Walmart, Target and Amazon, and also sells its clothing at department stores, high-end malls and 1,060 of its own stores and outlets. Analysts say the brand is as popular among low-income shoppers as it is among high earners.
